The Official Launch!

Finally a 100% Yukon only sled dog race.
The Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation has just approved and provided sponsorship for an all new, all Yukon Sled Dog Race. The race will cover approximately 340 miles of trail through some of the Yukons most remote and challenging country. The race is scheduled to start Thursday March 22nd at Eagle Plains Lodge on the Dempster Highway at 6:00pm. The Race will Cross through parts of the traditional territory of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation and continue all the way to their home town of Old Crow. There will be a one - two day mandatory layover, in which the community will host games, a feast, and dance with live fiddle music and give the mushers time to interact with the community and share stories. The second leg of the race will continue back to Eagle Plains on the morning of the 25th from it's starting gates on the Porcupine River in Old Crow. There will be a check point at about the halfway point between Old Crow and Eagle Plains. There will be a minimum six hour rest in each direction. The Race will finish back at Eagle Plains lodge on the Dempster Highway.
